Friends of Nature had a wonderful AGM on Friday, June 20, 2025.
The kick-off was Hank Middleton and Cynthia Myers singing duets to Nature, accompanied by the Studio Singers under the direction of Dawn Harwood Jones. Thank you all!
The highlight was Elizabeth May speaking to us in person, between making digital speeches live to parliament, fighting, on our behalf: Bill C5 An Act to enact the Free Trade and Labour Mobility in Canada Act and the Building Canada Act. It actually felt like History in the making. The Bill was passed that evening, despite Elizabeth’s heroic efforts, which included proposing many amendments. All of Canada owes a great debt to Elizabeth.
The Studio Singers entertained us throughout the evening, filling in between Elizabeth’s absence while addressing Parliament.
The formal AGM itself was uneventful, however thanks to Elizabeth, Cynthia, Hank Middleton and the Studio Singers, we packed the Hall, recruited many new members and received several generous donations. The FON board for this year consists of Elizabeth May, Sandy Dumaresq, Cynthia Myers, Ed Porter, Andy Breen, Jamie Simpson, Sheila Knowlton MacRury, Ken MacRury, Ana Kirby Breen and Syd Dumaresq.
The evening ended with sweets, conversation and organic cider, Rudy Haase’s favourite.
